Mullingar ladies hosted tullamore Saturday morning in Wilson’s Hospital School, Multyfarnham. With a very young squad, Mullingar were looking forward to introducing some new players to the squad, with Nicole Leonard, Claudette……., Niamh……… and Katelyn Griffith all making their senior debut for the ladies team. With such a young and new team the main aim for mullingar was to get minutes into the legs.

Mullingar started well but just couldn’t find that final pass to penetrate the ‘D’. On the other hand, Tullamore had no problem penetrating the ‘D’ but thankfully for Mullingar Sophie Marry, the Mullingar goalkeeper, was on the ball and stopped the ball hitting the backboard multiple times with some magnificent saves. Unfortunately though Mullingar did go 1-0 down in the second quarter with a penalty flick after a Mullingar foot stopped a goal scoring opportunity.

Mullingar were doing well especially in the middle of the park with the likes of ElleAnna Zumerchik, Ruby Murray, Robyn Bardon, and Jenna Mills all controlling the ball well. With other players playing well also it wasn’t enough to keep Tullamore out, as they put away their second goal to take a two goal lead going into the final quarter.

The match ended 2-0, unfortunately for mullingar but on the plus side Jennifer Diamond, mullingar captain, got a good look at her team mates for the first time this season in a game situation. With promotion from division 9 on the minds of Mullingar Ladies, they will be hoping to get a good start to the season when they face Monkstown in the opening game on the 3rd of October.

Thanks to Ed Lindsay and Ron Charles for umpiring the game.
